For a large swath of the country, it’s definitely not Spring yet, as the areas of snowfall will expand as we progress toward the end of the week, find out where it’s snowing today and what to expect this week; plus, more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Snowfall in the West and North Central US today

Snow will continue to fall in portions of the west, northwest, northern Rockies, and upper midwest today.

Snow will fall over portions of Washington, Oregon, northern California and over the eastern California mountains and Sierra, as well as parts of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Mixed precipitation will fall over portions of the Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Michigan that could potentially drop some snow.

Freezing rain is possible over portions of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

Hot temps in the central plains and South Central US today

Summerlike temperatures will occur throughout the southern Plains and the central US today, as well as portions of the Southwest.

Oklahoma City will reach 82 today, Dallas will be 88, Lubbock and El Paso will hit 87. The warmest spots in the nation will be Houston at 91 and San Antonio at 92. Brownsville will hit 89 and New Orleans will soar to 87.

Florida will be warm, but it won’t be the warmest in the nation. By comparison, Jacksonville will be 88, Tampa 83, and Miami 86. In the southwest, Phoenix will only reach 79.

Snow pattern shifts on Thursday, Friday

On Thursday, the snow and mixed precipitation pattern shifts east, expanding the area of ice storms to include South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa, as well as east into New York, and bringing snowfall over northern Maine.

The snow pattern will grow significantly as it shifts southeast on Friday, bringing snow to the upper two-thirds of Arizona, western and northern New Mexico, and larger portions of Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.

To the east, an expanding area of mixed precipitation will bring freezing rain to South Dakota, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Severe weather coming on Friday

As the colder weather moves southeast on Friday, the clash with warmer temperatures will bring severe weather to the plains and the southern US, currently indicating the possibility of strong thunderstorms over portions of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
