A wide band of snow showers will affect at least seven states today, while several states will see ice storms, and people in the south are picking up in the aftermath of destructive tornadoes; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.
At least seven states will see snowfall today as a wide blanket of snow will spread across the west and upper midwest. Snow is forecast for eastern Oregon, northern Nevada, and Utah, all of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, and the western portion of North Dakota. However, snow is possible in portions of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado.
The National Weather Service has issued an advisory of heavy snowfall over central, northern and eastern Wyoming, western and northeastern Montana, and northwestern North Dakota.
Mixed precipitation is forecast for portions of the west, upper Midwest, Appalachians, and northeast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for freezing rain for the eastern half and north-central North Dakota, northern and central South Dakota, and northern Maine.
In the west and upper Midwest, a wintry mix is forecast for all of Washington, most of Oregon, northern Idaho, much of Utah, Western Colorado, southern and eastern Wyoming, all of the Dakotas, the western half of Nebraska, and northern Minnesota.
To the east, a wintry mix is forecast over the Appalachians and portions of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, as well as the western portion of Virginia and eastern West Virginia.
In the northeast, makes precipitation is forecast for northern Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as all of Maine.
Several confirmed tornadoes touched down in portions of Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida on Tuesday. At least 56,000 people were left without power in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.
About a dozen homes were damaged in Eufaula, Alabama.
In Quitman County, Georgia, several homes were damaged along with downed trees and power lines.
At least one home was destroyed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Multiple damage reports were coming from Lucedale, Mississippi.
In parts of Northeast Florida, the severe storm took uprooted trees and cause damage to cars and homes. In Suwanee County, Florida several chicken houses and at least one residence was destroyed.
Out west, in a rare event, a small tornado touched down just north of Richland, Washington on Tuesday according to the National Weather Service.
