Two Of Jennifer Lopez’s Exes Just Came Forward To Expose What She’s Really Like Behind Closed Doors

Two Of Jennifer Lopez

Even into her 50s, Jennifer Lopez continues to reach new heights of superstardom, performing at both Super Bowl halftime shows and presidential inaugurations. While we all know her as a performer, she has also become famous for whirlwind celebrity romances — which rarely end on good terms. Recently, two of her exes revealed insights on J.Lo that the public never had any idea about.

Old Flames

A recent cover of InStyle magazine showed off Lopez’s charm and beauty, though that was nothing new. What did shock readers, however, were stories from two of her past lovers. The first man from her past was another Latin music star, who was the cause of so much heartbreak.

Latin Superstars

For ten years, between 2004 and 2014, Jennifer Lopez was married to Marc Anthony. The two were famous musicians on their own, but together they were the definition of a power couple. After welcoming twins into the world, it seemed they had found a happily ever after with one another. But like every marriage, there were rocky moments.

Candid Moment

When the two hosted the reality show, ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, audiences witnessed some playful banter between the two — until it took a slightly uncomfortable turn. Marc Anthony kept a very close eye on one of the female dancers as they left, in full view of his wife. He had to be doing it as a joke, right? The rumors that circulated about Anthony would say otherwise.

Finding Happiness

Was Marc cheating? It had been Jennifer Lopez’s third marriage, and to friends, fans, and family, it looked like it was going to last. But one day, Lopez battled back an anxiety attack as an unpleasant revelation hit her. She knew she had to end things between her and Anthony, though that wouldn’t be easy.

Making Amends

It took until 2014 for Lopez and Anthony to finalize their divorce. During a 2017 interview on The View, Lopez clarified where the two were after their split. “There’s a reason we’re not together, but we’re great friends and we’re parents together. We’re even working on a Spanish album together. That has been even better for us.” The separation proved complicated for others, however.

Fixing the Situation

In her book, True Love, Jennifer Lopez revealed the moment where her young son worried about how much she would be in his and his sister’s lives. Lopez comforted him and made sure her kids knew she wasn’t leaving them. In the end, separating from Anthony helped Lopez build a more healthy relationship with their children. But did Marc think the same way?

Words Of Praise

Surprisingly, he has the utmost respect for Lopez’s decision-making. “Before she even brings an idea up, she has visualized it a thousand times,” Marc Anthony told InStyle. “And if anyone says it might not be the greatest idea, she’ll say, ‘You just don’t see it yet.'” Anthony recognized that during their relationship, Lopez taught him so much that he has since grown as an artist. There was also something he never could forget about her.

Seeing The Great

Marc Anthony was impressed by her incredible work ethic. If there was a single person he could count on to be the “first one in the room and the last to leave,” that would be Jennifer Lopez. It would seem their separation succeeded in bringing them back together, just in a different way. InStyle also featured another one of Lopez’s former lovers, who had his own rollercoaster romance.

Heat Wave

Two years before tying the knot with Anthony, Jennifer Lopez got involved with Ben Affleck. And the two were big news around Hollywood. Paparazzi constantly hounded them and coined the nickname “Bennifer” for the couple. It might have been a bad omen that Lopez and Affleck met on the set of a film that’s considered one of the worst ever made.

Disaster Not Averted

Gigli was released in 2003 and garnered a slew of negative reviews. It was one of the most expensive box office bombs and effectively ended the career of director Martin Brest, known for Scent of a Woman and Beverly Hills Cop. That wasn’t all. Although “Bennifer” was the most-watched celebrity couple, something didn’t click with their chemistry on screen. Perhaps that was because of what the film was about.

Plot Holes

In Gigli, Ben Affleck played a macho, Italian stereotype who was frequently homophobic towards Lopez’s over-sexualized lesbian character. His character believed he could turn her straight, and he was ultimately successful. Despite the film’s unpopularity and the media circus around them, Bennifer seemed to be doing suspiciously well.

Leading to the End

Only a few months after they started dating, the two announced they were engaged. Affleck appeared in Jennifer Lopez’s music video for ” Jenny From the Block,” seemingly establishing himself as a fixture in her life. The media swarmed them for the next two years, taking photos and holding interviews whenever they could. But the reporters couldn’t see that the relationship had already deteriorated.

Twice the Trainwreck

When Jersey Girl was released in 2004, Bennifer fans found that the film was not the reunion they might have hoped for. Jennifer Lopez played Affleck’s wife, who gets killed off early on, due to complications from childbirth. Originally, Lopez’s role was much bigger. But off-screen issues caused her role to be greatly reduced.

Celeb Romance Farewell

Soon after, the couple shared the devastating news that they had ended their engagement. They were just days away from their planned wedding. A few months after that, they officially broke up. After almost two decades since the end of their hot and fast relationship, Affleck offered his own insights on his ex for InStyle.

Affleck was surprisingly complimentary toward his ex, especially when it came to her professional ambitions. “I was completely humbled and blown away by what she was committed to doing day in and day out, the seriousness in which she took her work,” Affleck stated. As he went on, it seemed he was still very much smitten with her too.

Sweet Thoughts

“Where are you keeping the fountain of youth? Why do you look the same as you did in 2003 and it kind of looks like I’m in my 40s…at best,” Ben Affleck quipped. While many “Bennifer” fans might have hoped for a reconciliation between them, there seemed to be little hope the Hollywood couple would ever romantically connect again. For a pretty good reason, too.

Love Life

After his divorce from Jennifer Garner, Affleck went on to date another high-profile actress, Ana de Armas. But that relationship didn’t last either. Meanwhile, J.Lo found love again in the form of baseball great Alex Rodriguez. They soon had their own nickname, one that seemed to put Bennifer in the rear-view mirror for good.

Honeymoon Stage

Known as both “J. Rod” and “A. Lo,” this pair seemed like they were living out a fairytale. News of their engagement came as no surprise, as Lopez has been married three times before while Rodriguez was married once. But that was followed by some disturbing developments.

Rumor Mill

There were rumors that A. Lo/J. Rod were on the rocks, but many insiders insisted that the pair had not called it quits. Their engagement was still on. Fans wondered when the big day would finally arrive. Then, a photo on Jennifer Lopez’s Instagram changed the game, once again.

Photo Hint

In the photo, Jennifer Lopez’s engagement ring was nowhere to be found. After fan speculation ran wild, the two lovers finally revealed what the photo might have hinted: the engagement was off. While it’s hard to tell what exactly caused this rift, there was at least one person to whom the split came as no surprise.

Cat Fight

Mariah Carey. She and Lopez both got their start around the same time, and enjoyed a parallel rise to fame. However, despite their successful careers, a longstanding feud has soured all relations between the pair. It all started back in 2001, when Carey apparently came up with the idea to sample Yellow Magic Orchestra’s “Firecracker.” She wanted to repurpose the tune for her track “Loverboy.”

Sony Gets Involved

But fans of Lopez will know that their diva beat Carey to the punch. There have been reports that Sony Music chief Tommy Mottola, whom Carey had divorced in 1998, heard about Carey’s plans for “Loverboy.” He subsequently took Carey’s intended sample and used it on a track called “I’m Real” by Lopez, who was signed to Sony subsidiary Epic.

Did Me A Favor

A year later, Carey addressed the sample-stealing drama when she spoke to MTV. “Let’s just say they did me a favor,” she said. “And they know who they are. And thank you, sweetie. And your friend who did it with you!” Those close to the situation subsequently stated that Lopez was the “sweetie” whom Carey referenced here.

Stolen Idea

Some good did come of the feud at that time, though. As Sony executive Mottola had allegedly stolen Carey’s idea, she’s said to have used the incident as leverage to get out of her contract with the record label. Instead, she moved to EMI for a reported $80 million on a five-album deal.

Getting Even

Then came perhaps the most famous statement made so far in this feud between two divas. In 2008 Carey appeared on a German television show for an interview. During the conversation, the singer was asked questions about other female artists. For instance, when they asked her about Beyoncé, Carey responded, “I love Beyoncé. Beyoncé is fabulous, and she’s a great writer. Very sweet.”

I Don’t Know Her

After that, though, the interviewer made the mistake of asking Carey her opinions on Lopez, six years on from their alleged falling out. Upon hearing her foe’s name, Carey started shaking her head. Then, she muttered what would become an infamous statement and, years later, an internet meme. Carey replied simply, “I don’t know her.”

Plead The Fifth

Before that quote reached meme status, though, more drama between Carey and Lopez transpired. It would be J.Lo’s turn to address the tension next, and she did so in 2014. At that time, she appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Specifically, the TV host put Lopez through his “Plead the Fifth” segment, in which he asks questions about a person’s past or relationships – and they can only veto one of his inquiries.

Denying It

After asking Lopez about her relationship with former flame Ben Affleck, Cohen moved onto her relationship with Carey – or the lack thereof. “I don’t have a feud against her at all,” Lopez began. “I know from back in the day, I’ve read things that she’s said about me that weren’t the greatest.”

Never Met

However, Lopez then seemed to confirm Carey’s infamous “I don’t know her” quote. The “Jenny from the Block” singer said, “We have never met. Like, we don’t know each other… I think it’s kind of from word of mouth things that have happened in the past that I’m not really aware off. But I don’t know.”

Incredible Talent

Then, Lopez seemed to make an effort to smooth things over between herself and Carey. She praised the diva, saying, “I would love to meet [Carey], and I would love to be friends with her. I think she’s incredibly talented and I’ve always been a fan of hers… It saddens me to hear anything that’s negative because I’m a big fan of hers.”

Another Side

But Lopez’s efforts did little but gloss over a long-standing divide between her and Carey. During a 2015 interview, The Cut’s Véronique Hyland asked Carey about the presents that her fans had given her recently. Carey then hinted at the infamous “I don’t know her” debacle, revealing, “Well, there was a very interesting shirt that a fan made with a quote that I said years ago that, when I said it, I really wasn’t trying to be funny.”
