An outbreak of severe weather will occur over the south and central US today, increasing and expanding its territory tomorrow, while snow continues to fall out west and in the northeast, and winter-like weather will increase across the nation on Wednesday; plus more of today’s weather news and forecasts.
Portions of the northeast from New York to Maine will start their St. Patrick’s Day with snow, a transition to rain, and with a little bit of that Irish luck, should in the day with a bit of sunshine and perhaps even see a starry night.
On the downside, due to the coronavirus outbreak, Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is canceled, as well as many bars and restaurants that have been ordered closed.
More snow is on the way out west, as the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for southeastern Wyoming in anticipation of snow accumulations between 2-6 inches and ice accumulation.
The National Weather Service is also warning of heavy snow in Northern California, Southern Oregon, and Northwestern Nevada. Snow will continue to fall in these areas for the next couple of days and could expand to other regions.
Thunderstorms will extend from New Mexico to the southeastern coast today. The most severe weather will occur over portions of central and northern Texas bringing the risk of gusty, damaging winds, hail and a low threat of tornadoes.
The National Weather Service is warning that northern Texas and southern Oklahoma will also see heavy rain with the risk of flash flooding.
Thunderstorms will extend from Texas North into Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois; as well as East along the Gulf Coast states to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
On Wednesday, a wintry mix will span the entirety of the US, with the largest area in the West and northern Rockies, spanning across the upper Midwest and into the New England states.
Freezing rain will be the most prominent feature of this storm, but several states could also see snowfall.
In the central US, south, and southeast on Wednesday thunderstorms will span from Arizona to the eastern seaboard.
The threat of heavy rain and flooding will occur over Texas, Oklahoma, the four corners of Oklahoma/Kansas/Missouri/Arkansas, as well as over Indiana and Ohio, according to the National Weather Service.
