Another round of heavy snow will be coming to the west and upper midwest over the next two days, while the south will endure another round of thunderstorms and potentially severe weather today; plus, more of today’s weather news and forecast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of heavy snow over portions of the northwest and the northern Rockies today. Portions of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming all have heavy snow warnings in effect.
Mixed precipitation is forecast throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota, as well as for portions of northern California, northern Nevada, northern Utah, western and northern Wyoming, northwestern South Dakota, and northwestern Minnesota.
Thunderstorms will span across the Mississippi and Tennessee River valleys today, with the most severe weather forecast for portions of the southeast.
Thunderstorms will affect southern Missouri, southern Illinois, most of Kentucky, northern and eastern Arkansas, southern Louisiana, all of Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and the southern half of North Carolina.
The most severe thunderstorms are forecast over the southern half of Alabama and Georgia, the southeast corner of South Carolina, and the northern regions of Florida including the Panhandle.
The largest threat today will be strong and potentially severe winds, but there is a low risk of hail and isolated tornadoes that exists as well.
A wide-ranging snowstorm will occur over the west on Wednesday covering all of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
In addition, most of Utah, the northern half of Nevada, the western half of South Dakota, northwestern Nebraska, a portion of northwestern Minnesota, and a portion of northern California could see snow.
Freezing rain is forecast for a significant portion of central and northern South Dakota, eastern and southern North Dakota, and the northern half of Minnesota.
Mixed precipitation is also forecast over all of Washington and Oregon, along the northern borders of California and Nevada, as well as portions of Utah, Colorado and northern Wisconsin.
