It’s a clash of the seasons split right down the middle of the central US today, but it’s also a bit of a reversal as the usually-warmer west side will see snow, freezing rain, and a wintry mix, while the east side will see heavy rain and thunderstorms – no severe storms are forecast; plus, more of today’s US weather news and forecast.
A large swath of the western US will experience snowfall on Tuesday. In the northwest, significant portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana will see snow today. Snow is forecast for nearly the entirety of Wyoming, the western halves of the Dakotas, as well as portions of Utah and Colorado. Snow may also fall over the northwestern portion of Nebraska.
Freezing rain and/or a wintry mix is forecast for the eastern halves of the Dakotas, as well as the entirety of Nebraska and most of Kansas, the northwest corner Missouri, and the western halves of Minnesota and Iowa.
From north to south, a band of thunderstorms will cut straight through the nation’s midsection on Tuesday bringing significant rain.
The thunderstorms will affect the eastern half of Texas, all of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, as well as eastern Kansas, and the western halves of Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Portions of the northeast will see a wintry mix and freezing rain on Tuesday including the eastern half of New York, most of Vermont, northern New Hampshire and most of Maine.
